The Information and Records Management Society is always looking at ways to help the profession pool its knowledge and expertise for common benefit and to this end is pleased to launch this new wiki based tool aimed to assist information and records managers tackle the thorny subject of retention.
In this world of Big Data and the ever increasing legal and regulatory obligations affecting governance, risk and compliance, policies and processes for record retention and disposal have never been more important. The Society acknowledges that a comprehensive retention resource covering all sectors and all types of records is beyond the ability of all but the most wealthy and dedicated of organisations and learning from previous projects is looking to the active and interested professionals which form the information and records management world to develop this tool as a resource to be evolved by the community of practice who are involved with retention and disposal on a day-to-day basis.
This wiki provides a community-editable platform that will allow the profession to develop on-going consensus on rules (periods, triggers, disposition actions and reasons) for different record series and share updates on legislative implications in a manner that is both dynamic and sustainable.
