Celebrating our female leadership in the IRMS
08 March 2018
On this International Women’s Day, we in IRMS would like to acknowledge and celebrate the women who are involved in the leadership of the IRMS.
The IRMS have many female members and we are very lucky to have members who are recognised in the UK, Ireland and internationally for their innovative work in the information management field. These women are leading lights and inspiration for the members of IRMS and the information profession. These include Alison North, Heather Jack, Claire Johnson, Elizabeth Barber, Sarah Hayes, Claire Graham, Ceri Hughes, Sue Garland and Jane Proffitt.
Since the IRMS was formed in 1983 we have had many females involved in the Society. Those who have led the Society as Chairs have been Shelley Hardcastle, Sue Garland, Catherine Hare, Ceri Hughes and Clotide Wang.
In the current executive committee, we have two women who are leading members as constitutional officers. They are providing leadership in the society ensuring that the Society meets is mission statement. That is:
to provide leadership in records and information management with the aims of:
- Championing the status of information and records management through representation, external liaison & promotion
- Supporting professional development through sharing knowledge and expertise;
- Promoting all aspects of good information and records management practice.
To do this, the Society supports and promotes activity across the profession as well as being active in advocacy for the profession and engaging in mutually-beneficial collaborations with other organisations for the benefit of both our membership and the wider profession.
Emily Overton is Vice-Chair of IRMS. Emily has been involved in the IRMS executive since 2011 and took up the role of Vice-Chair last year. Fiona Kearney is Secretary and has been involved in the executive since 2013. She is in her second term as Secretary. Both these women are helping to ensure that the IRMS is a vibrant and relevant society for all its members.
They are joined on the Executive by Shona Dunning as Membership Director, Sarah Norman as Training Director, Jessica Waite as Communications Officer and Melody Allsebrook as Groups and Volunteer Officer. These women bring hard-work, enthusiasm, pragmatism and their professional experience to the leadership of IRMS.
The IRMS also have many groups that are led by women. We have Jaana Pinnick as chair of IRMS Midlands; Suzy Taylor as chair of IRMS North; Andrea Binding as chair of IRMS South West, Patrycja Duszynska as chair of IRMS Wales-Cymru; Elizabeth Barber as chair of IRMS Public Sector and Michele Noad with Melody Allsebrook as joint chairs of the IRMS SharePoint and Office 365 group. These women do excellent work in organising events for the benefit of IRMS members so that they can learn from the experience of others in the information management profession.
You can connect with any of these wonderful women on the IRMS website once you are logged in as a member.
Without the enthusiasm and professionalism of these women the IRMS would not be as strong an organisation as it is today. These women are inspired by those that have been involved in the Society before them and hope to inspire the many women who are involved in the information profession and the Society to get involved and become leaders of the profession themselves.
While we have only named a small selection of the wonderful women who have been involved and are involved in the IRMS we thank every woman for all their work on behalf of the Society, especially as all the roles are done in a voluntary capacity.
